White Whale

The White Whale Series, painted in 2016, emerged during a time of deep personal loss, as my mother gradually slipped into a coma. Spending over a month by her side in the hospital, the sights and sounds of that space embedded themselves in my subconscious. The night before she passed, I dreamed of her transforming into a white whale, swimming toward the horizon. That vision became imprinted in my work, shaping my most abstract marks to date.
